Mountain Jam 2013 | Hunter, NY

The Jam is quickly approaching…and that makes me happy! For those of you who haven't been..it's time to go and get your Karma Wash On!!

The Ninth Annual 2013 Mountain Jam is June 6-9 at Hunter Mountain. A now 4 day festival started by Radio Woodstock 100.1 (WDST) and Warren Haynes (of Gov't Mule, The Allman Brothers Band) in 2005. It has grown to be one of the Country's premiere "Jams" with a lineup that get's better with age!

This year there are over 50 bands on 3 stages. You can buy any number of passes including camping (may already be sold out hurry!), full festival passes, Super VIP passes and today they announced the 1-day pass (Good for me because I can only make it one day this year :( ). There are also tons of places to stay from the Kaatskill Mountain Club that's slopeside to slopeside condos, nearby house rentals and numerous hotels and rentals in the area. Places fill up quickly so you can also opt to stay down the Mtn. in Saugerties, go for 1 day like me OR they also have a Shuttle from Manhattan..YES!

My favorite performer is of course Michael Franti & Spearhead…thank god they are back! I look forward to groovin out to Franti's tunes every year…he makes me happy! (KONICHIWA) The lineup this year is extensive and ranges from Primus to Widespread Panic to The Lumineers, Phil Lesh & Friends, Gov't Mule and on and on..Check out the full lineup here.

Among some of the attractions this year are "The Karma Wash"…yes it's a real thing, a Fire Troupe, The Sky Ride, Yoga, Craft Vendors, Food of course YUM, North Americas Highest and longest Zipline and tons of Kids activities (10 and under Free Admission). There is also an Awareness village with many non-profit organizations sharing information, spiritual guides, meditation sessions and artist readings and performances…Check here for a full list of activities and attractions.

Karma Wash...Get your Karma Wash Here!!
No matter who you bring with you, rain or shine, Mountain Jam is a great time! You are sure to get your groove on…there's no stopping it!! Links and pics below.

Enjoy! See ya there!

Zaborski Emporium | Kingston, NY

This is my Heaven on Earth!!! If you happen to know me, then you know that I like antiquing, collecting, and shopping in general. An acquaintance of ours told us about Zaborski Emporium (AKA "Stan The Junk Man") about a year ago and we finally made our way there one afternoon we spent in Kingston, NY (Great town and I will have more posts about Kingston soon).

Front of Zaborski Emporium

Side View (So you can see how large this place is!!)
This place can be a dream come true (Like it is for me) or your worst nightmare!! It's an old warehouse…HUGE…3 stories high and packed to the gills with stuff!! All kinds of stuff!! I thought I had seen some of the best Junk & Salvage places around (United House Wrecking in Ct.) but you really haven't seen anything like this place. Some rows you can't even walk through and each floor is piled to the ceiling...and remember these are warehouse ceilings!!

The Wherehouse | Newburgh, NY

What can I say, since it's opening on Newburgh's Liberty Street in 2009,  The Wherehouse has become our go-to spot for a casual dinner, great beer, music and a good time. It feels like home….and that's because I love music & beer!! hehe…and the staff are the best!!

The Wherehouse Newspaper Style Menu
(You can advertise in it too!)
The Wherehouse Front

The ambiance is a mix of psychedelic "think Haight-Ashbury" 60's vibe (Many posters designed by owner Dan Brown- Read his story here), authentic music memorabilia, and a bit of an industrial mix with exposed brick. Somehow you still feel a warm fuzzy feeling here. What's great is you'll also find a wide age range of patrons. It's the kind of place everyone can enjoy for a family meal or a drink out with friends.

Mother Earth From Above | Hudson Valley, NY

Have you ever absorbed the beauty of the Hudson Valley from above? It's well worth the view…I guarantee you, and I'm afraid of heights!!!!!!

On any given weekend in the Hudson Valley look up…you will see Hot Air Balloons all over the place, and for good reason. One of the best ways to experience the Hudson Valley is from above!

Sunrise at Randall Airport | Middletown, NY

I took my leap of faith (forgive the pun) a few years ago. I'm deathly afraid of heights and will not get into many aircraft, but for my Birthday I was invited on a Hot Air Balloon ride. OMG…I said yes….

Fantasy Balloon Flights, Inc is the company that piloted our Hot Air Balloons. We took off from Randall Airport in Middletown, NY. It's an early start to the day..I think we were there gearing up at 6am. The entire time I was shaking with anxiety and excitement. What was I doing….

The sound of the blowers to inflate the balloons are loud…It's also exhilarating to watch them inflate…so pretty!..Once they were fully inflated and it was determined that the wind was appropriate for flight (a huge factor for ballooning), we climbed in (me scared to death). Then it was time to take flight.

Balloons Inflating

Our pilot asked us to all close our eyes…so we did (me reluctantly). The blowers started and in about 30 seconds he told us we could open our eyes….Holy CROW…we were already way up in the sky, you don't even feel like you moved an inch and there was absolutely no sound up there once the blower stopped!!! That's what it's like. You don't have the sensation of movement or sound, you just float.

Taking Off

Flying High

It was one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had. I never fully appreciated the beauty of the landscape as much as I did on this day and the sensation of floating in the sky is like no other. I was truly high on life (It was also my Birthday).

When you land (in a random place might I add…they have tracker/chaser vans following you on the ground)..they pack up the balloon's/baskets and drive you back to the airport where you get a certificate of flight and a glass of Champagne..nice!!!

Below are some links and pics for you to explore and hopefully with warmer days ahead you will take flight over the Hudson Valley and enjoy a Heavenly ride!

The View @ New Cavu | Walkill, NY

Mission possible! Where else can you have a fab dinner and skydivers land right in front of you? At Nu Cavu in Walkill, NY!! Mark your summer calendars now my friends.

Nu Cavu is a great Italian restaurant located on the Kobelt Air Field in Walkill, NY. If you time it right, you can have your dinner and enjoy the skydiving show! If you're really lucky and enter the raffle, you can win a tandem flight that very evening!!

Here they come.....

I visited Nu Cavu with my brother one evening last year. It was a rainy evening so I didn't expect to see the skydivng at all, but it eventually cleared up and there they were...suiting up! Skydive The Ranch takes off from and drops in on the air field in front of Nu Cavu. It's really a wonderful experience...I would never skydive myself...way too chicken!! Watching others jump is different, although I still get anxious for them...Yikes!! I won't even get in a prop plane let alone jump out of one!!

The planes take off...then about 15-20 minutes later everyone in the restaurant starts moving outside (unless your table is already outside on the lovely patio). You start to see little dots appear in the distance and then they get larger...one by one each skydiver lands and the crowd erupts into applause and cheers (with drink in hand!)...not only because they landed safely, but also because many times they are competing to see who can land in or nearest a set circle...the closest wins prizes!! Yay

Great Sunset too!!!

Besides the skydiving, Nu Cavu hosts many other events and has live bands every Friday and karaoke on Saturday evenings. They are open for Dinner Wednesday - Sunday from 4pm until 10pm. Lunch is served Wednesday - Sunday and from 11:30 am until 4pm. Bar is open until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights! I hear the bar scene is lively later on but of course it's way past my bedtime..hehe

I had a great evening at Nu Cavu and can't wait to go back when it warms up!

Here are some links for you to explore, and enjoy the view at Nu Cavu!

Day Trippin | Hudson, NY

Spring has almost sprung and that means a trip to Hudson!! My favorite Hudson Valley town! (Besides Newburgh of course.)

My husband and I first visited Hudson, NY when we were planning our wedding a couple of years ago. We stumbled upon Hudson because we (as many others now) wanted our wedding location to include a barn. We explored many locations, but once we found Hudson and Oak Hill - Livingston House the search was over.

The town of Hudson is basically a slice of NYC in Columbia County, NY only 2 hours north from NYC. It's full of antique shops, great food, lovely B&Bs, and above all else a great community spirit. (I think they have a parade or festival every weekend...no kidding!) Many residents live in NYC and have summer/country homes here. You can spend the entire day walking up and down Warren St. shopping, eating and browsing.

Here are some of my favorite places to explore in Hudson (Besides Bacon Fest..haha). I hope you get a chance to visit this special town in New York for a day trip or a weekend. By no means is this a complete list of all the great things Hudson has to offer, just some of my favorites (with pics). Visit this resource to explore even more: http://www.gotohudson.net/

Motorcycle Mecca | Newburgh, NY

Did you know that Newburgh, NY is considered the crossroads of the Northeast? Well...I think it's also on it's way to becoming the Motorcycle Crossroads of the Northeast as well!

Newburgh is home to Orange County Choppers, Moroney's Harley Davidson / Honda, and in 2011 we were blessed with the opening of Motorcycle Pedia Museum.

We decided to visit the museum yesterday as we have been meaning to go but never got around to it...we weren't sure what to expect really. OMG...OMG...this museum is AWESOME...and I don't even ride! (Although I've been known to ride with people occasionally....back in the day!)

Bacon Love | Hudson Valley

Yes...I said BACON! On this snowy cold day I have bacon on the brain so I thought I would share my thoughts about our favorite bacon made right here in LaGrangeville, NY at Mountain Products Smokehouse.

My husband and I are always on a quest to find the best bacon, but nothing has surpasses the texture and flavor of the "Chipotle" yes, I said Chipotle Smoked Bacon from Mountain Products Smokehouse.

We found this bacon at the first annual NY Bacon Fest..yes...there is now a bacon festival in New York YAY. It takes place in September in Hudson, NY. The first one was good, but I guarantee this festival will grow (I Hope), because let's face it, bacon is what makes the world go round (sorry veggies, but it's true!).

Below are some pics of said bacon and festival...and a few links so you can explore (order & try) for yourself....Ooh and if you have an Adams Fairacre Farms near you....wait for it...they carry all varieties of Mountain Products Bacon. We like the Chipotle best, but runners up are Cracked Pepper and Maple Cinnamon. Stay warm my friends and eat your bacon!

Bacon Fest Poster...Yes..I bought one!

Exploring Historic Newburgh | Newburgh, NY

OK...I live in Newburgh so I have an entire page dedicated to it and many of my posts will be Newburgh centric...with that being said there is so much about Newburgh that I have yet to explore, but one of the best things about this town is the history. There are so many Historic homes in the City of Newburgh (Over 4000 In the Historic East End- The largest in NY State) that are breathtaking. Not only that, Newburgh is home to one of Washington's Headquarters (Love It). I had the pleasure of running into the reenactment actors across the street at the Newburgh Brewing Company (Stay tuned for the NBC post).

You can read about the History of Newburgh on The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands website here:
http://newburghhistoricalsociety.com/Main/HomePage

The Historical Society has frequent events around town that explore and preserve Newburg history. In April there is a lecture about the history of the steamboat that made the Hudson River Valley industrious. Sounds very interesting (see the site for details).

Below are just a few pics and some links to sites that are great resources for exploring Newburgh's history and preservation. Come to Newburgh and explore!!

Clinton Shops | Montgomery, NY

OK...this place is GREAT! Tucked away in Montgomery, NY you will find a Dealer Antique & Collectibles shop called Clinton Shops. We go here at least 4 times a year and always find treasures. It's my favorite place for Christmas shopping too since I always try to find special items for people and like to support local retailers. I guarantee you will find something in this tightly packed place. The dealers & staff are always helpful. My latest scores are vintage Hudson Valley Milk Bottles.
